Adopt-A-Pilot is an award winning program at Southwest Airlines that is a supplementary way to educate children through aviation-themed activities related to Science, Geography, Math, Writing, and other core subjects. From February through May of each year, students in more than 1,500 classrooms across the country will “adopt” Southwest Airlines Pilots. Students will research careers and further develop life skills while pilots are given the opportunity to mentor students and share their passions. I created the 2017 graphics that included posters, banners, and postcards to encourage more pilots to join the program.
I decided to go in a fun direction where I could play with typography and experiment with different hand drawn elements. I drew superhero elements, such as a cape and mask on a pilot photo to create eye catching posters, postcards, and banners.
The design was well received by the Adopt-A-Pilot team and we decided to have a photoshoot with a new pilot to highlight the 2017 Adopt-A-Pilot tie.
I also created posters that illustrated the six F.L.I.G.H.T. values (Fearlessness, Leadership, Imagination, Gratitude, Honesty, and Tenacity). These posters are meant to be given to students and teachers to keep and hang up in classrooms.
