VCD2: TYPOGRAPHY | SPRING 2016

Below are a few of my favorite projects from my Typography course.

TYPOGRAPHIC BLOCKS

For this project, we chose a typeface and used our research to design all sides of six different blocks. I chose the typeface Mrs. Eaves and was inspired by its quaint English origin. When put together, the faces create different pictures, such as the London skyline or a vintage bicycle.

NEW ALPHABET

I created a new alphabet system based on the hit TV show How I Met Your Mother. Each letter corresponds to a joke from the show along with an illustration. The final layout is a full color poster.

FOUND LETTERS BOOK

My final project in my typography class was a found letters book which presented letters I collected in books, magazines, and other printed materials. Over ten of each letter were found, scanned, and digitally colored. Each letter corresponds to a card with the Latin name of a flower along with an illustration. I then laser cut folders for each card and presented them in a hand bound, accordion fold book.

POP-UP PROMOTION

The purpose of this project was to invent a series of three cards promoting an event or museum. I chose the Coca-Cola museum in Atlanta, GA and created a set of three paper-engineered cards with a laser-cut slip cover.

GRAPHIC WIT

Word/Object Combination - The purpose of this project was to convey a sense of wit through the interaction of a single, lowercase Helevetica word and a household object. Spray-bottle is hand-rendered and shaded, then finished in Illustrator.

LETTER & NUMBER COMBINATION

The aim of this project was to create a symbol integrating one letter and one number. In the design, one was to be in black and the other defined by negative space while reflecting a strong balance between the two. I created an initial grid of 25 hand-rendered combination possibilities and chose one to develop and refine as my final symbol design.
